Review January 2009 John Stevens- "Midwestern Music Scene"
Craig Erickson's first full length independently released CD boasts and intriguing title that really makes you wonder what it will sound like.
It is definitely a departure from some of his past Shrapnel and Grooveyard releases.Yet it bears some trademark stylistic influences a la Tommy Bolin...It veers off into other influences such as Grateful Dead,Chris Whitley,little feat,Taj Mahal,Joni Mitchell,Ani Difranco,Bob Marley,etc. At times it's dramatic,funky,mysterious,and humorous and somehow the songs are intertwined without being always obvious or specific.
In the artist's words,"I let my music and lyric style run a bit more free this time,more experimental and mellow,like some demos I've been doing for many years...this time I threw in some unusual instruments like 6-string banjo,Lap steel and fretless guitar to add flavor..."

Erickson also played all the drum and bass tracks and acoustic guitars to contemplate his bluesy vocals.The only other musician on the record is Natlaie Brown ,adding violin to 2 tracks.

The record plays a bit like a funky folk country bluesrock concept CD,telling stories of life on the road in Europe,lost loves,and the reality of a ravaging flood..but the darkness is always accompaied by a glimmer of hope.
Guitars paint textures and colors to the bittersweet lyrics...Crisp opentuned acoustic rhythms mesh with primitive funky drum groovesand banjo fills to create a cosmic yet swampy atmosphere...
The lead guitar is less flashy and more feel oriented with a swooping lyrical solo on "time To Let Go" and some stinging blues fills on "Perfect Love" which may be the standout cut on the record..

Erickson has performed with and recorded with major players such as Glenn Hughes(Deep Purple,Trapeze,etc.),Rob Wasserman(Ratdog,Lou Reed,Rickie Lee Jones),T Lavitz(Widespread Panic,The Dregs,),Jeff Sipe(Susan Tedeschi,Derek Trucks,Shawn Lane) and many more. He has obviously learned a thing or two about songwriting and offers some fresh surprises on this release.It travels a strange but comfortably familiar directions of retro meets modern, creating a relaxing,intriguing and ultimately uplifting listening experience..
